Delta State Govt Intensifying Its Environmental Protection Efforts, As Taskforce Chairman Urges LG Areas To Enforce Strict Sanitation Standards.
The Delta State Government has reinforced its commitment to ensuring a clean and healthy environment across the state. Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environment, Hon. Godspower Asiuwhu, who stated this, emphasized the critical role local government authorities play in maintaining sanitation during his visits to the Chairmen of Ethiope West and Sapele Local Government Areas. Hon. Asiuwhu underscored that these local councils are essential partners in the state’s broader environmental strategy, which aims to enhance public health and prevent disease outbreaks linked to poor sanitation.
During these visits, Hon. Asiuwhu highlighted the urgent need for closer collaboration between state and local government councils to effectively address the persistent environmental challenges facing their communities. He urged the local government chairmen to prioritize sanitation by implementing and enforcing strict waste management practices. Hon. Asiuwhu stressed that consistent and coordinated efforts across all levels of government are vital to maintaining cleanliness, which directly impacts the well-being of Delta State residents.
Beyond sanitation, Hon. Asiuwhu also focused on the importance of sustainable forest management, urging the local government chairmen to take proactive measures to protect the state’s forest reserves. He warned against illegal activities like logging and deforestation, noting that such practices not only harm the environment but also jeopardize the future sustainability of the region’s natural resources.
Reflecting the vision of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon. Asiuwhu’s appeal is part of a broader commitment to environmental protection across Delta State. He assured the local government chairmen that the state government would provide necessary support to help them maintain high sanitation standards and preserve the environment. Additionally, he called on residents to cooperate with local authorities by adhering to proper waste disposal practices, thereby contributing to the cleanliness and health of their communities.
In response, the chairmen, Hon Chris Onogba and Hon Bright Abeke of Ethiope west and Sapele Local Government Areas expressed their readiness to work in harmony with the state’s environmental policies. They pledged to take decisive actions to ensure their areas remain clean and aligned with the state’s environmental goals, ultimately benefiting all citizens.
